Can I Register A Harbor Freight Trailer

Showtime time buying and registering trailer, could use some DMV info.

Dear harbor freight redditors,

I just bought the light duty harbor freight trailer, the 1195lb. ane. I'm adequately new to Texas and new to trailers completely. What are the rules for having to register the trailer? Practice I need to at all? If so, what forms do I demand to bring to the DMV?

Bank check your local DMV website. They should have all the data you need there. Some states require an inspection and VIN to be added to the trailer. Others may just slap a plate on it.

TL:DR Cheque the DMV website about local laws or telephone call.

Definitely state specific. In NJ they wanted a copy of the receipt to brand sure I paid the sales tax and the document of origin.

Can confirm it varies by country. Just definitely accept that cert of origin. I didn't know what it was and my DMV sent me packing when I didn't have it, had to telephone call the [non-HF] trailer vendor and they tracked information technology down hiding in a binder that the sales rep didn't think to check.

Also build a few trailers a year.

You Do need to register it, just you do not demand a title until y'all hit 4000# gross weight which I do not think the HF trailer can do.

If you have the certificate of manufacturing (I think this is what it is called, never owned a new trailer that someone else built) I would go alee and try to get the title. May help if someone steals it at some point.

As for the forms I'd just being the certificate that comes with it.

Most of the trailers I register are don't have whatsoever papers (under 4000 pounds gross weight) and I've never had trouble.

I did the i,720 capacity trailer a few years ago. The shop gives you a Certificate of Origin when you buy the trailer, and it has a VIN that will match the VIN tag on the trailer. You but accept that downward to the local registration/title office and they'll create a championship for it and issue you a license plate and registration sticker to put on it. Information technology'southward pretty straightforward, they exercise it every 24-hour interval.

Thank you. I take the Certificate of Origin and VIN. Do you know if registration and a title are needed in TX? I'm not also worried nearly it beingness stolen so am willing to do whatever is cheapest.

I bought my hf trailer online and I had to call and have them mail service me the certificate. 1 did not come up in the box for me. Likewise I recommend using https://mainetrailerregistrations.com/ at least here in NY I saved a lot of money registering my trailer in Maine.
